Supported internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16 to 24-year-olds with SEND, who have an education, health, and care (EHC) plan. The core aim of a supported internship study programme is a substantial work placement, facilitated by the support of an expert job coach.

Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI)

Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI)

Job Coaches play a pivotal role in providing In-Work support within Supported Internships and Training in Systematic Instruction (TSI) is an internationally recognised method of supporting learning. TSI is a holistic training method which focuses on errorless learning and painless correction. It can be used to train anyone anything, regardless of if they have additional needs or not, but the usual sector it has been used widely for many years is employment. TSI and the Structured Training method is widely recognised as one the pivotal training methods for supporting people with additional needs in the workplace.

The course content: TSI explores the power balance between the trainer and the learner with the emphasis being placed on empowering the learner focusing on fading support so that the learner is able to perform what they are being taught independently without any trainer intervention.

TSI courses are non-accredited. On the TSI course you will be expected to practice your new skills with an individual with learning disabilities, called a Consultant Learner. The Consultant Learner will be paid for their time via the TSI Trainer. The day that you are required to work with a Consultant learner will vary depending on which course you are enrolled onto.

Booking Process and Conditions

Booking Process and Conditions

BASE is committed to supporting the professional development of staff through fully funded training opportunities. We fund course places for this programme upfront and only recover costs from the Department for Education (DfE) when the nominated staff member completes the course in full. A series of courses have been scheduled between now and March to help meet national targets for workforce development. We understand that circumstances can change, but short-notice cancellations or non-completion of training have a significant financial impact on us as an organisation and limits availability for people who could have accessed this training. On average, each cancelled place results in a loss of £800.

To ensure fairness and shared responsibility, from December 2025, a cancellation fee of £800 per place will apply for any booked place that is cancelled with less than 10 working days' notice. To avoid this charge, we ask that providers reallocate the vacated place to another eligible staff member already booked on a future course or involved in supported internships. If this is not possible, the cancellation fee will be applied, and future bookings for that organisation may be withdrawn and offered to other providers.

Please note that staff reallocation is ONLY possible for the whole course duration and cannot be swapped partway through a course. Additionally, staff who are withdrawn from a course with less than 10 working days' notice, will not be eligible for funded places in future unless a substitute staff member is provided.

We are a compassionate organisation and we will review unforeseen, extenuating personal circumstances. This policy is designed to protect the integrity of the programme and ensure that resources are used effectively to benefit as many staff as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us deliver this programme successfully and achieve our shared goals.

Booking Terms

Booking Terms

To apply for places on this training, organisations must complete an application form on behalf of their employee. By completing this registration form your organisation is consenting to:

  • Pay £800, if you or your enrolled employee cancels their attendance with less than 10 working days notice, or starts but fails to complete the course, unless there are unforeseen, extenuating personal circumstances.
  • Pay the full course cost of £800 if the enrolled employee is found to be ineligible for fully funded training.

Once we have received the registration form, we will send an enrolment form directly to the employee to complete with the details required for enrolment and dates of courses. Please note we have courses running throughout the year.
